Our Education System

Hello Readers, today I would be writing about the educational system. In our country educational system goes like Nursery-Kindergarten ( pre-primary classes ) then classes 1-5 ( primary classes )then classes 6-8 ( middle school ) and then classes 9-12 ( high school ) and then to our stream specific colleges.
A very disappointing fact is that in the whole journey of our schooling we are never told to be creative or be practical. From the very first day of nursery to the last final exam of 12th standard its goes on like a cycle. we don't be creative , just study what is given in syllabus . from this I remember a very recent incident. It was very last month that my 9th grade exams finished. While the revision time was going and it was science period. We all were learning valencies of elements. In our book it was given that the valency of iodide is -1. A question raised in my mind that what would be the atomic no. of iodine. As it was not mentioned in the book, I asked it from my chemistry teacher. And then a very amazing thing happened. A just got a hard slap from my teacher. She scolded me and told me that if it is not mentioned in book, it will be not going to come in exam. So leaving these topics aside I should focus on the syllabus that would be coming in exam. That time I thought that we really study to just pass the exam not for knowledge.
Yes this is the harsh truth. I India we start a chapter in any of the subject do its question answer and then give exam of it and forget it after the exam. I study in CBSE system and till 8th standard I had 6 stets of exams

  1. FA 1 ( 30 marks exam of each subject in month of July )
  2. FA 2 ( 30 marks exam of each subject in month of August )
  3. SA 1 ( 80 marks exam of each subject in month of September )
  4. FA 3 ( 30 marks exam of each subject in month of November )
  5. FA 4 ( 30 marks exam of each subject in month of February )
  6. SA 2 ( 80 marks exam of each subject in month of March )
The rest of month is exempted from exam schedule because in month of April we just have joined the new class so everything is new to us. In May & June there are summer vacations. Then in October it festive time Diwali, Dussehra an d much-much more. In December-January its winter vacations and rest all months are in scheduled to exam. In short I can say we we give exam more and study less in a year. And for all these exam we are just learning question-answers and giving exam.and forgetting it. This cycle goes on like this and except some of the basic knowledge we gain nothing.
Even from some of the readers reading this I would like to ask. How many of you remembered the terms like stomata & eutrophication from biology? or What are the different fractions of of fractional distillation of Petroleum? or What is the 2nd law of physics or the 3 equations of motion? or From which year did the Akbar started its reign? or What is the total geographical area of India? or can anyone tell any 4 fundamental right of freedom? I think most of you can't answer it but believe me its not your fault its fault of our education system which make us learn things only for exam.
An another very harsh truth about this system is that subject like Computer Science studied more theoretically than practical (at least in Faridabad). I mean, Computers a topic that is meant to be studied practical is also done theoretically. This is our educational system.
Now I would like to draw your attention toward a very common stereotype of Indians (although many of us are now changed) that the students studying in Medical/Non-Medical streams are best and one studying in streams like Arts, Commerce or Humanities are generally week. Thank God that this perspective is now changing as students choose the streams in which they are good and the feel comfortable. If we combine passion with profession, no can stop us from being successful.
One more stereotype of Indians are that if one chooses Medical stream which contain Physics, Biology and Chemistry as main subjects he/she will become a doctor. There tons and tons of career options related to these topic but who cares. The one we are going to become is just a doctor. Same is with the Non-Medical stream also. It consists of Maths, Physics, and Chemistry as main subject and if we choose it we would become a engineers. Although we can become Cosmologist, Hydrologist, Architect, Astronaut, Aviation Inspector and much-much more but the typical thinking is we will become engineer. We should see that nowadays the the field-span of the careers have expanded and developed a great variety. So choosing a different option may provide good job opportunities and also we can be connected to the things that we like or that inspire us by choosing such options.
These were some of the disappointing fact of of educational system but it wasn't like this from starting. India have a great history in education. Its the India where the 0 was discovered and don't forget the decimal system. Nalanda University was once the largest university was too and in ancient time people from many far away places come here to study. Mother India has also given birth to many legends like Aryabhatta and not just in ancient times even under the reign of British, legends like C.V.Raman, J.C.Bose and many more. We have a lot about education in history but these new system is just ruining the educational future of ours as now day we are just focusing on passing exam.
I hope you were able to see through my vision and were able to connect to me and understand the feelings while reading this. I also ask you to give your precious feedback and views  or share your opinions or any incident with us.
Meet you all again next week with an another such topic to which you can connect with. Signing off for this week
